Indian Navy Showcases Maritime Prowess at Naval Commanders’ Conference 2024

The Naval Commanders’ Conference for the first edition of 2024 kicked off on March 5, 2024, with a spectacular demonstration of the Indian Navy’s maritime capabilities. The three-day event commenced with Defense Minister Shri Rajnath Singh witnessing a remarkable display of the Navy’s prowess in ‘twin-carrier operations’ at sea. This showcased the increasing strength of India’s sea-based air power, highlighting its commitment to maintaining maritime superiority. The demonstration featured the combat capabilities of aircraft carriers INS Vikrant and INS Vikramaditya.

Inaugural Address by Defense Minister

Shri Rajnath Singh, in his inaugural address to the Naval Commanders, lauded the Indian Navy for its growing multi-dimensional capabilities in the Indian Ocean region. He praised the Navy’s efforts in promoting peace and prosperity across the Indo-Pacific, aligning with the vision of Security And Growth for All in the Region (SAGAR).

Hybrid Format for Conference

This year’s Naval Commanders’ Conference adopts a hybrid format, providing a platform for Naval Commanders to deliberate on strategic, operational, and administrative matters related to maritime security. Against the backdrop of evolving geopolitical dynamics and regional challenges, the conference plays a crucial role in shaping the future trajectory of the Indian Navy.

Key Deliberations

During the conference, Naval commanders are expected to discuss critical issues, including China’s expanding military presence in the Indian Ocean and the challenges arising from Houthi militants targeting cargo vessels in the Red Sea and surrounding areas.

Tri-Service Collaboration

The conference will witness the participation of the Chief of Defence Staff and the Chiefs of the Indian Army and Indian Air Force. This collaborative effort aims to explore synergies among the three Services in the face of a shared national security environment, enhancing tri-service coordination and preparedness in defense of the nation.
